Off‒hand Blown Glass, Off‒hand Glassblowing — art glass, handblown glass
Off-hand glassblowing, also called furnace glassblowing, involves collecting molten glass melted in a high temp furnace and
shaping it on the end of pipes and punties using tools that range from newspaper to high tech metals.
Oxidation — ceramics
A firing atmosphere with ample oxygen. An electric kiln always gives an oxidizing fire. In a wood or gas firing, the mixture of
fuel and air is perfectly adjusted to give a clean burn. Compare to Reduction.
Oxides — ceramics
Metal oxides can be mixed with water and applied to the surface of clay. By varying the amount of material applied and rubbed off,
the potter can achieve effects similar to stained wood. The most common stain is iron oxide (rust).

Warm glass technique of done by fusing a paste made with small pieces of glass inside a mold at temperatures between 1300 and
1500 degrees Fahrenheit.
Perfume Vial — ceramics

to the body.

A generic term used to describe earthenware or any clay piece that has been fired.
Porcelain — ceramics
An extremely durable, highly fired pure white clay. Named china clay because this clay has appeared only naturally in China.
Porcelain clays are created outside China by mixing various ingredients. The primary ingredient, Kaolin, got it’s name from the
Kaoling region of China. Primary properties are translucency and whiteness.
Production Glass — art glass, handblown glass
Most glassblowing studios consider their output to fall in one of two categories: art pieces or production glass. The latter
describes the bread and butter pieces they turn out to meet basic expenses of the operation. Production glass is relatively
similar pieces — glasses, bowls, vases, perfume bottles, ornaments or goblets that can be made quickly while still
including what the artists considers signature handwork details.
Punty — art glass, handblown glass
A solid metal rod used to transfer and hold hot glass during the glass blowing and forming process.
